Can you believe that the health care/medical industry is not an option under work?! WTF, Blogger? I work for an enormous hospital writing the stuff that gets cancer research studies approved. I think I'm funny, I'm a good cook, and I'm living in sin with my boyfriend.

The Scoop

So, the cat was finally let out of the bag about the lay-off on 2/15/07. Alot has been going on since then, so allow me to catch you up.
I am very not happy about losing my job. I was actually fortunate enough to have one that I liked a great deal of the time. The idea of financial uncertainty is very frightening to me. Matt and I were trying to get it worked out for me to go to school full time and get into the PA program for next year. So I've done alot of trying to get financial aid worked out, but completing FAFSA is very time-consuming, so that hasn't gotten done. I've been sending out resumes, but there aren't alot of jobs that I'm qualified for, having experience in so specialized a field. I got 1 rejection letter, and no other word from anywhere else. My boss put in a good word for me with the VP of our Implementation department for a job as a project manager, and I'll have a phone interview with her this week. One of my fellow choir members hooked me up with someone who works in clinical trials with a pharmaceutical company, and I have a phone interview with her this afternoon. The problem with the implementation job is that it would be travel - which would be fun for awhile, but I'll have to quit school. But, the job does come with a certain level of stability, I won't have to relocate, a pay increase, and the chance to develop my managerial skills (something I haven't been given the opportunity before). So, if I get/take this job, Matt and I have decided I'll do it long enough to pay off some bills and save up some money so that I'm not completely destitute when I do go back to school - full time. I'm just not in a financial position to be able to drop work altogether right now. So, the working life for me! Which, I'm more comfortable with right now. Kind of hoping that this contact from choir works out, because if I get this, maybe they'll pay for me to go to school to be a PA, but if nothing else they'll be supportive of my endeavors and I won't have to leave my studies behind just when I've started them up again.
So, there's alot going on in my life right now. Matt and I are moving in together in the next month, I found out last week that I'll be an aunt in August (oh yes, there's a baby on the way for my brother and his child bride). I'll keep you posted as I can! Think happy thoughts for me.
